Lady Macbeth is a strong-willed character who will do anything to have her way. Her desire for Macbeth to become King is even greater than that of Macbeth. Throughout the play, Macbeth is forced to commit unforgivable sins to achieve the position of King. Lady Macbeth shows her guilt towards the deaths of Duncan, Banquo, Lady Macduff and her.

Unfortunately, many of the characteristics one would align with being a good king made Macbeth a bad king as well. Macbeth was too ambitious--as seen by his murdering Duncan. He was too protective--as seen by his inability to interpret the apparitions warnings in the correct way.

Kenneth Deighton. The character of Macbeth, as presented in the play, is a progressive one. As the plot proceeds his few good qualities disappear, while the evil become more and more developed. His career is a downward one. He goes from good to bad, and from bad to worse.

Macbeth definitely had a predisposition for violence, but he was a valiant and loyal soldier before the witches entered his life. There is evidence that Macbeth was once a good man. The sergeant tells Duncan that Macbeth was a big reason for their success in battle.

Macbeth was a general, a thane. Being so, he was committed to defending the king and be his loyal servant. He was a great warrior who was used to taking away lives of people in the battlefield. He would not be so trusted if he were not good with swords and killing.

This is interesting as they are suggesting good and evil as being one. The witches' line reflects on human character since there are fair and filthy parts to everyone. Shakespeare wished to get this information across as the primary character, Macbeth, is a prime example of the struggle between good and bad within a single individual.

In that period of time, women were below men in society. Being able to have such thoughts as a woman under those circumstances at that time proves that Lady Macbeth is evil and her mind is filled with the lust for high ambition. Therefore, Lady Macbeth’s evilness drives out Macbeth’s ambition to become king and murder Duncan.
